On an elevated level site c. 60m to the N of the Roughty River. The ruins of a mid-19th century two-storey house; roughly square in plan (c. 21m N-S; c. 20m E-W) with a projecting three-storey crenellated tower at the SE corner. The entrance front (S-facing) is of four bays; the entrance is via a one-storey gabled porch with sidelights. There are large rectangular window opes throughout. The house, built by Sir Richard Orpen in 1847, replaced an earlier house also associated with the Orpen family (Bary 1994, 15); the 1846 OS 6-inch map depicts this earlier house as an L-shaped structure with two parallel ranges of buildings to the rear. The present house was burnt in 1921 (Bence-Jones 1978, 12).
