A castle is said to have been built by Carew in 1215 on the borders of the river Kenmare (Ann. Inisf). The precise location of this castle is not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).
