Rock art in Derryleagh

This flat section of rock outcrop is situated in rough pasture 34m SW of KE091-027----, and affords a restricted view ofthe Sneem river estuary at S. Its N end is concealed beneath a layer of peat and the exposed decorated surface measures 1.2m x .83m. The motifs comprise three cup-marks, two cup-and-rings, a cup-and-five rings, a cup-and-six gapped rings and some areas of loose pocking. A long groove extending from one of the cup-and-rings runs beneath the peat deposit. The cup-and-five rings carries three satellite cups, and a radial line which commences between the two outermost rings extends beyond the motif. The inner ring of the cup-and-six rings is joined to the second ring by a short loop, and to the fourth by a radial line. One side of the fourth ring terminates in a cup-and-ring (information: A. Purcell).’ According to local information, this rock art stone may have been buried or cleared to margin of field during land improvements.
