Enclosure in Dromlusk

A ruined stone enclosure, not marked on the OS maps, is located on the high NE slopes of Knocknagullion mountain, overlooking a broad peat-covered area on the W side of the Blackwater river valley. A modern circular enclosure overlies the circuit of an earlier, stone-faced bank. The inner and outer faces of this bank are traceable only at ESE and WNW, where the wall thickness is 1.2m. The site has an internal diameter of 13.2m. The later enclosure is for the most part reduced to a broad band of stone collapse and obscures much of the earlier site. A rectangular sheepfold has been constructed in its SW quadrant. The poorly preserved remains of a second structure (KE091-104001-) are located alongside this at E, but it is not clear whether or not this is contemporary with the earlier enclosure.
