Stone row in Gortacloghane (dunkerron South By.)

This stone row is located on the lower SE slopes of Mullaghanattin mountain, above the confluence of the Blackwater and Kealduff rivers, and commands fine views to S. A small stone enclosure occurs adjacent to it at SE, and 120m to NE is the site of a single standing stone (KE091-110----). The smallest stone of the NE-SW orientated row stands at its NE end, and measures .55m x .5m x .2m. The second stone, .6m to SW, stands 1.4m high and measures .95m x .48m at base. A large stone, irregular in outline, lies prostrate 2m further to SW and measures 3.45m x 1.55m x .3m. It overlies another stone, and may have split from it. A small stone, measuring .65m x .45m x .45m, stands .5m to SW. Just .5m beyond, again to SW, a heavily recumbent stone rests on a small prostrate slab that forms part of the adjoining enclosure. The stone measures 2.4m x 1.35m x .35m, and may have originally stood at this end of the row (Ó Nualláin 1988, 239). Adjacent to the stone row at SE are the remnants of a circular kerb of orthostats, 5.5m in diameter, which is titled 'Stone Circle' on the OS maps. Only its N half is well-preserved, and here it is composed of slabs set on edge end-to-end, averaging .5m high and .8m long. A number of prostrate slabs define the S limits of the enclosure. Standing 1.15m outside the enclosure at E is a slab (KE091-015002-) which measures .6m high and 1.3m x .45m at base; E-W. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
