A possible ‘gallaun’, which is not marked on the OS maps, apparently stood at this location before its removal in the 1930s. It was described as standing over six feet (1.8m) high, and an iron ‘spearhead’ was reported to have been found during its removal (local information). The monument stood at the foot of the steep N slopes of Bray Head, and overlooked Emlagh bog and the Atlantic beyond. Some local reports suggest that it bore an ogham inscription.
