Field system in Derreenacahill

In rough hill pasture, on the S-facing slope of Coombane Hill. The remains of a system of relict field walls (T 0.4-0.8m; H 0.1-0.8m), which protrude intermittently above the surface of the bog, meander in different directions with no definite pattern apparent. The main section of relict field wall winds from N to S over a distance of c. 250m. An E-W wall (L c. 110m) branches off the main section, at c. 70m from its N end. Another wall branches off the main wall at c. 170m from the N end and extends (L c. 80m) in a general E-W direction. Midway along their lengths, these two branches are connected by a N-S wall (L c. 60m). Towards the S end of the main wall another branch extends c. 85m to the E. Another relict field wall (L c. 250m) is c. 70m to the W. The remains of this wall (T 0.4-0.8m; H 0.1-0.6m), which protrude above the surface of the bog, consist of some upright stone slabs, set at right angles to the line of the wall. Other stones are scattered along the line of the wall. There are three enclosures (KE084-022001-, KE084-022006-, KE084-022009-) and six hut sites (KE084-022003-, KE084-022004-, KE084-022005-, KE084-022007-, KE084-022008-, KE084-022010-, KE084-022011-) within the system.
