What is recorded here

Not marked on the OS maps, this site is known locally as a ceallúnach and is located towards the centre of a large sloping field on the lower E slopes of Kilbeg, Valencia Island. It overlooks Valencia Harbour to N and consists of a raised area of approximately rectangular plan which measures 10.5m N-S x 17m E-W and averages .6m high above surrounding ground level. About twenty, low, uninscribed slabs stand on its upper surface. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 1005. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 30 July 2013
