Childrens Burial Ground (Disused) — Killelan East

Children's Burial Ground: The enclosing element of this approximately circular site is severely eroded and modified. It is located in gently sloping pasture on the landward end of Dolus Head and measures 19m in diameter. The original enclosing earthen bank is well-preserved only at N, where it stands 1.25m high internally. The instillation of a sewage tank has resulted in its obliteration at W. A modern field wall overlies it at S. The interior of the site is occupied by a series of small, uninscribed upright slabs, particularly in its E half. The site was no longer in use as a burial ground by the late nineteenth century. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
