What is recorded here

In rocky, bog-covered terrain, close to the summit of Geokaun, Valencia Island. A narrow terrace holds a rectangular, slab-lined hut of drystone construction, now heavily sod-covered. D: 6.7m x 4m. H: .6m. T: 1.55. Two small rectangular outlines nearby, perhaps turf-drying racks. A collapsed lintelled structure and a rough structure built up against a rock-face nearby are more likely to be animal shelters. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 1269. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 1 August 2013
