Mass rock described by Alison McQueen as; 'In rough, rocky pasture adjacent to edge of public road, on a SE -facing slope (approx. 75m OD), in the Black Valley. In good condition and surrounded by other naturally placed rocks. A substantial glacial erratic at the roadside known locally as a mass rock and referred to as Carraig an Aifrin (Mass Rock). Traditionally known to have been used as a gathering place and as an altar to celebrate open air mass during the Penal times. There is a distinct vantage point from this location where the surrounding areas can be seen. Used to celebrate mass in modern times in commemoration of its original purpose'.
