What is recorded here

Little is preserved of the large enclosure marked at this location on the first edition of the OS maps. On the second edition it is depicted as a large subcircular field. The area has recently been ploughed and only a portion of the enclosing element at S remains extant. This survives as a boulder-faced wall with a rubble core, the upper courses of which have been rebuilt in recent times. It stands 1m in height and is 1.2m wide. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 742. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 29 July 2013
