What is recorded here

In level pasture. A circular area (diam. 34m) defined by two earthen banks, an intervening fosse and the remains of an outer fosse. The inner bank (Wth 2.6m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1.95m) slopes gently down to the interior. The intervening fosse (Wth 3m) is flat bottomed and is waterlogged N-S. The outer bank (Wth 3.1m; int. H 1.7m; ext. H 1.35m) survives NE-N with the NE arc truncated by a linear road boundary. The outer bank along the NW arc has been incorporated into the field boundary system. There is a causeway entrance through the inner (Wth 2m) and outer (Wth 3m) banks at SW. Stone facing on the NW side of this entrance, in the outer bank, continues along the internal face of the bank for a couple of metres. An outer fosse (Wth 0.8m; D 0.5m) is visible S-SSW. The interior, in which reeds grow, is concave. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011
