What is recorded here

Internal diam. 28m. This circular univallate rath lies on a N facing slope about 150m from the E bank of the Owenalondrig river. The laneway which skirts the NW half of the enclosure has recently been improved and the outer flank of the bank in this sector is now 3m high and has been partly faced with stone. Elsewhere the bank is c. 1.5m high externally. It rises c. 1.2m above the interior. Access to the interior is provided by 2 gaps at S and SW. The low ridge which bisects the interior NW-SE may be the remains of a field wall. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 288. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 6 August 2013
