What is recorded here

Internal diam. 24m A subcircular univallate rath situated on a very slight E facing slope, overlooking the level marshy land that surrounds Trabeg. The enclosure lies in the SE corner of a field and the S and E portions of the enclosing bank have been replaced by modern field walls. The bank around the remainder of the perimeter is up to 1.3m high. Part of its inner face at NW is faced with upright slabs. There are a number of breaks through the bank, the largest at W being 2.5m wide; the latter is partly blocked by an upright slab. A possible hut site in the centre of the interior is defined by 2 upright slabs and a few prostrate stones. The area enclosed measures 4m x 2m. A souterrain was formerly visible at the site (local information). The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 408. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 7 August 2013
