What is recorded here

This densely overgrown, horseshoe-shaped mound is located in a level, marshy field and is flanked to N and S by recent drains; the fill from these has been piled alongside the mound. It measures 9.25m E-W, c. 8m N-S, up to 1m in height and is chiefly composed of small burnt and fire-shattered stones. Immediately inside the open N end of the mound, at its W side, are 2 flat slabs resembling paving stones. An L-shaped pit, 2m x 1.5m x c. 1m deep, has been dug into the centre of the site and appears to be of fairly recent origin. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 239. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
