Cathair na Maoilinne: This site lies in rough pastureland on the lower SE slopes of Mount Eagle, overlooking Ventry Harbour and Dingle Bay. Very little now remains but it has previously been recorded by Macalister (1899, 216-7). At that time it consisted of a large oval stone walled enclosure, 62m x 43m, which enclosed 13 very small chambers or clochauns. A rock shelter and possible clochaun lay c. 14m to S. The chambers were either circular, oval, rectangular or D-shaped in plan and included 2 conjoined pairs. None were more than 2.66m in maximum dimension and the smallest was 1.29m in diameter.
The present remains consist of an ill-defined area, c. 40m in diameter, enclosed on its S side by a very faint bank of earth and stone and on its N side by a low scarp, .5 to 1m high. All that remains of the chambers are 3 mounds of stones in the NW quadrant.
The rock shelter and possible clochaun to S of the enclosure are still extant. The former measures 4m x 2m internally and is partly defined by a ruined wall and partly by outcropping rock. E of this is a short length of walling, 1.6m long and .6m high, which could represent the N side of a clochaun.
