Internal diam. 22m N-S, 21m E-W This circular univallate rath is situated on a very steep N facing slope of Knockafeehane, and commands a magnificent view over the Anascaul valley. The external fosse is c. 1.6m wide at base and c. 0.7m deep below the external ground level. A disused and densely overgrown laneway runs NW-SE alongside the W part of the enclosure and it is not clear whether the fosse is preserved in this sector. An E-W field boundary obscures the fosse in the NE sector. The bank varies in height from 1.6m externally and .2m internally at N to 1.4m externally and 1m internally at S. The N facing entrance is 1.8m wide at present. The wall of the hut-site in the interior is now reduced to a low stony bank which encloses an oval area, 3.9m N-S x 5.9m E-W. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 413. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 7 August 2013
