What is recorded here

Ringfort KE045-024---- was destroyed in about 1982 and the site is now marked only by a scatter of small stones which cover a roughly circular area 30m in diameter. A drystone-built souterrain (KE045-024001-) was revealed when the site was levelled but it was subsequently covered over again. It consisted of at least 1 passage and chamber, and a porthole slab marked an entrance at some point within the structure. A small perforated stone, possibly a net-sinker or loom-weight, was found amongst the loose stones on the surface. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 605. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 7 August 2013

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
