What is recorded here

There is little trace of the circular univallate enclosure marked here on the 1st edition of the OS map. The site is now bisected E-W by the road. The only visible feature is a low stony bank which runs 14m E-W about 6m N of the road. The bank is straight but both ends curve S for 1 to 2m. It is .5 to .6m high and c. 1m wide. It is not clear whether this is part of the original ringfort or of a later feature. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 706. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 7 August 2013
