Internal diam. 19m. A roughly circular univallate rath situated on the N side of the Knocknanacree ridge, overlooking the narrow valley that extends W from Anascaul. The bank and fosse have been replaced along the NE sector by a straight NW-SE field-wall. For the remainder of the circumference the bank rises 1.8m above the fosse which is 4m wide but only faintly discernible. The bank height above the interior is generally slight, but it is emphasised by the presence of a series of large, roughly circular depressions in the interior. These latter are enclosed by low stony banks and may be the remains of hut-sites. They measure up to 6m in diameter and 1.25m in depth. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 281. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 6 August 2013
