What is recorded here

Internal diam. 20.3m This univallate rath is located about 175m S of KE043-207----. It appears to have been considerably modified and it is not always clear which portions of the present enclosing element (up to 1.3m high) are original. Stretches of earthen bank are juxtaposed with sections of drystone walling and sections of stone revetted earthen bank, and the outline is now irregular. Originally the site would appear to have been enclosed by an earthen bank, possibly stone-faced, and the drystone walls are secondary. A laneway skirts the site along the W sector, and the enclosing bank has either been removed here or is incorporated into either the E or W boundary fence of the lane. There is a large field clearance mound in the interior. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 497. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 7 August 2013
