Cross-inscribed stone in An Fearann (tc An Daingean)

This cross-inscribed stone stands on the NW side of the holy well (KE043-224024-). It is inscribed with a Latin cross on its N face. The initials FD have been carved beneath the cross in recent times. St. John's Well described by Ó Danachair (1960, 73) as follows; 'A small covered well in the yard of a house in the Mall, Dingle; a small pillar built into the wall beside the well has a cross and the letters F D incised on it; this pillar is said to have an ogham inscription now covered by masonry. Formerly (up to about 1900) visited as a holy well, especially on the 24th of June'.
