What is recorded here

One of the facing stones of a farm outhouse, formerly a dwelling house, is inscribed with a Latin cross with expanded terminals. It may originally have come from a burial ground, though the nearest is at least 1km away. However, 2 stones in the NE gable bear the inscriptions J.F.S.4 1892 and J.F.S 2 1891 and the cross may have been carved at the same time as one of these. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 825. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 7 August 2013
