What is recorded here

Lismore/An Lios Mór: Circular bivallate rath KE043-134---- commands an excellent view in all directions from the S slopes of Knockavrogeen. Two souterrains (KE043-134001- & KE043-134003-) and a hut-site (KE043-134002-) were formerly visible in the interior but are no longer traceable. The 2 souterrains recorded by Windele (1848, 421) are not now visible. One was apparently earth-cut, the other stone-built, and there were 2 entrances, one in the fosse and the other in the interior of the ringfort. One of the structures reputedly contained 'a stone with round letters on it'. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 486. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 7 August 2013
