Barrow — unclassified in Ballymacthomas

'Situated in a field on the immediate eastern side of a tributary of the River Lee. The portion of land on which these sites occur slopes gently westwards. The main features within the complex are earthen enclosures, small mounds, a linear earthwork and a possible barrow with portions of double banks remaining. All of these sites are partially denuded due to reclaimation, this field still being slightly marshy despite efforts to reclaim the land for the purposes of pasture.............to the east of the terminus of the above earthwork [KE038-152----] is a possible, though substantially denuded barrow, which would appear to be surrounded by a second bank from north through east to south to south/south east. The barrow takes the form of a sub-circular bank, averaging 4.50m in width and surviving to a maximum of 0.50m above external ground level at north. This encloses a shallow ditch, 1.50m in width, which was 0.30m below the crest of the bank. This ditch is 0.38m below the level of the circular central platform, which is 6.00m in diameter. Total dimensions of the barrow are 18.0m E-W by 16.0m N-S. Surrounding this at an approximate distance of 10.0m is a second bank. This has an average width of 10.0m on its south side, widening to 12.0m in width at the northern extent of the bank. This enclosing element is 0.40m high externally, being 0.60m high internally.'
