Cairn — unclassified in Clahane

'The cairn is situated on a craggy eminence to the west of the summit of Knockawaddra mountain at the eastern end of the Slieve Mish. The site affords expansive views of the Lee Valley, Tralee Bay and the Stacks mountains, to the north, north-east and north-west. To the south the Maine Valley, Castlemaine Harbour and the MacGillycuddy Reeks can be seen. The cairn measures 10m N-S and 10m E-W and is substantially covered in peat, except for some areas on the northern side (cairn may be larger but only removal of peat would clarify this). The cairn remains to a height of 1.68m on its northern side but is considerably lower to the south, where it appears that the cairn has almost been constructed up against an existing crag. There is some evidence for a revetment on the northern side and the cairn itself is composed of red sandstone slabs and boulders up to 0.5m in length.'
