Inscribed stone in An Droim Thiar

This large boulder was unearthed in 1982 in the course of levelling ground in front of a newly-built house on the side of the Kilmore to Cloghane road. It measures 2 x 1.5 x 1.28m and a small area of its surface, c. 0.4 x .2m, is decorated with several poorly-executed crosses and other motifs. The main cross motif consists of a roughly equal-armed cross within a circle. Two straight lines, flanked on either side by a small cross, link the circle to the top of a rectangular panel which is divided horizontally into 3 sections. The upper and lower sections are broken up into smaller segments by a series of irregular lines and the middle section is occupied by 3 small crosses. A series of short lines projects outwards from the sides and top of the rectangular panel. The longer grooves below and to the left of these motifs may be accidental markings caused by the recent removal of the boulder from the ground. The above description is derived from J.
