Hut site in An Baile Breac

In rough, rocky, but enclosed pastureland, overlooking the flat boggy plain drained by the Feohanagh river. A complex of 4 conjoined structures consisting of a pair of corbelled drystone huts and 2 more flimsy enclosures, probably later sheep-folds. E hut KE034-068---- is circular, internal diameter 4.8m, its wall standing to a maximum height of 2.1m and varying from 5.5 to 2m in thickness. There is a probable wall-cupboard at E. An entrance into the yard or sheep-fold at S measures 1.15 to .55m in width, 2.9m in length and 1.15m in height. The entrance passage communicating with the W hut is now blocked but measured 1.1m in height and .63m in width. The W hut is sub-rectangular in plan measuring 5.4 x 5.6m internally, its wall standing to a maximum height of 1.3m. There appears to have been an independent entrance, now blocked, in the W wall. A lintelled shelter, probably for lambs, has been constructed in the NW corner of the interior. The yard or enclosure into which the E hut opens measures 9m E-W x 5.15m N-S, and its enclosing wall is 1.6m high and 1m thick. There is an entrance gap and a lintelled sheep gap in the E wall. The 2nd probable sheep-fold abuts the N side of the W hut. It is subcircular in outline, 9m in diameter internally, and is defined by thin, poorly constructed walls.
