Fulacht fia in Ballyduff (trughanacmy By.)

Fulacht Fia surveyed in 1986 by the Castleisland District Archaeological Survey and described as follows; 'Situated on the southern portion of the townland on a southeast facing slope in a field of very wet pasture. The mound is clear of vegetation. The monument consists of a mound of black burnt earth and burnt shattered red stone. From 83 degrees to 232 degrees an obvious horseshoe shape can be detected. From 232 degrees to 280 degrees the outline of the mound continues though there is no internal height. From 280 degrees to c. 44 degrees, the outline of the mound continues on a roughly circular manner, both internal and external external slopes can be easily traced. From 44 degrees c. 83 degrees though the external slope can be easily traced, there no internal slope. The greatest internal and external mound heights occur from 83 degrees to c. 180 degrees. The length of the mound = 9.6m from 180 degrees to 332 degrees. The width of the mound = 7.9m from 72 degrees to 252 degrees across the middle of the mound. The length of the horseshoe shaped portion of the mound = 6.7m while the width = 4.5m. An area of rush growth is concentrated in the southern portion of the mound. The mound is bordered by a field fence on the south and southeast. Burnt material is obvious in the field fence also'.
