Enclosure in Barrakilla

'This site was situated on gently south sloping land immediately to the north of Chute Hall. It was marked on the OS 1st & 2nd Edition map as large curving semi-circular field boundary, with what appears to be the remains of a second bank occurring at south-west. The portion of the enclosure shown on the OS maps measured 180m NE-SW and 80m NW-SE suggesting an enclosure measuring 180m by approximately 160. According to the map the surrounding field boundaries neatly observe this enclosure, but on the eastern side no trace of this site was marked on the map. Little or no trace of the marked enclosure now survives on the ground, though there are undulations in the ground surface in the area of the bank and the rough nature of the ground along the line of the former bank suggests a bank width of 9-12m. All the field boundaries have been removed and amalgamated into one large field. This field has been intensively cultivated so no trace of these field boundaries can now be seen on the ground. The part of the site shown on the OS maps is clearly visible on aerial photography as is the possible line of the site to south-east. This suggests a sub-oval enclosure, similar in shape to the site at Glanbane (Ke039-065----). The initial reclaimation/amalgamation works in this area were undertaken in the mid- 1980s.'
