Kilquane (Cill Chuáin) church ruins in the parish of Ballymacelligott, diocese of Ardfert, barony of Corkaguiny, were described in 1841 as follows; 'In the townland of Kilquane is the site of an old church about thirty feet [9.1m] in length and fifteen feet [4.57m] in breadth but its walls are destroyed nearly to the very foundations. This church was dedicated to the celebrated Saint Cuan Airbre, the second Abbot of Mothel in the Desies near Carrick-on-Suir' (O'Donovan 1983, 65). Poorly preserved church site described in 1999 as; 'Situated on a slightly raised area of land with good views in all directions. Only the wall footings (H 0.8m) of this levelled church site are now visible, they are best preserved at NE corner' (SMR File).
