What is recorded here

Gortduff Fort/Lios an Ghoirt Dhuibh (ringfort of the black field). This circular enclosure is marked on the 1841-42 and 1898 OS maps. On the later edition the S sector has been incorporated into a fieldbank running E-W, while a lime kiln is noted in the SW sector. The site shows up slightly on the Geological Survey of Ireland's aerial photographs (1977) but all that survives today is the curve in the fieldbank, which depicts the S sector of the enclosing bank. The rest was completely levelled about five years ago. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 753. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
