What is recorded here

This site is not marked on the 1840-41 map. 'Cave' is marked on the later 1916 edition. A fieldbank cuts through this site in a NW-SE direction. On the N side of the fieldbank, a large stone covers the entrance to the souterrain system. According to local people, the chambers are high enough to stand erect. In the field NE of this souterrain system are many mounds which are supposedly connected to it. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 1125. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
