What is recorded here

Internal diameter 27m N-S, 30m E-W This site has an excellent view of the surrounding countryside. It appears to have been a bivallate rath, but about 10 years ago it was levelled considerably. Today all that remains is a raised D-shaped area enclosed by a fosse. The inner area rises to a height of between .6m-2.4m above the fosse. The fosse measures 3m in width and 1m below the height of the surrounding land. According to a local man, Mr Barry, this fort used to have very high steep banks and a very steep fosse. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 252. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013
