What is recorded here

This enclosure lies behind and to the right of Nolan's farmhouse. On the 1841-42 OS map, a small bohareen would appear to lead up to and encircle the burial ground from the SW, exiting at the N side and continuing NW. No trace of this bohareen can be seen today. This site consists of a roughly circular area, enclosed by a low, wide earthen bank. The internal diameter N-S measures 41m, while the external diameter measures 57m. The bank measures c 12m in width at the base; its external height measures on average .6m and the internal height varies between .3m-.9m. A ridge c 3m in width runs across the interior in the E-W direction, and is possibly the remains of an old fieldbank. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 851. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 August 2013
