Monakyle burial ground' KE003-037---- is marked on the 1841- 42 OS map and on the 1914 map it is designated as 'Monakyle children's burial ground (disused)'. According to Holly (1981), 'The remains of the deceased inmates of the Workhouse in Farranawana were brought up the Pottery Road to be buried here during the famine years and for some time afterwards.' The burial ground was known locally as St Monica's Church, and up to a few years ago there were traces of a building (KE003-037001-) and a graveyard, but no surface trace of either can be seen today. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 847. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 3 August 2013
