Moated site in Lislaughtin

This site is situated in a corner of a field, and a track lies immediately to the E and S of it. At these points the bank has been incorporated into a fieldbank. This enclosure consists of an inner area enclosed by a fosse and an outer bank, but the outer bank can only be traced from the N through W to the SW. The interior is roughly rectangular, although it curves E at the SW corner. It measures internally 52m N-S and 66m E-W. The maximum external height of the enclosing earthen inner bank measures 2m, the width of the bank at the base measures on average 4m (to the W it measures 10m), and the internal height of the bank above the interior measures 1m. N through W to the SW sector there is evidence of a low, wide fosse. Due to the construction of the trackway and fieldbank, it cannot be identified for the rest of the site. The width of the fosse ranges from 3m-5m. The outer earthen bank is low and wide and like the fosse can only be traced from the N through W to SW. The external height of the outer bank measures .8m, the width of the bank at the base on average is 6m, and the internal height of the bank above the fosse c 1m. The interior is at a higher level than the surrounding land, and in the SE corner it rises sharply towards the bank. In the E sector, there is a long narrow depression, 22m x 6m.
