Litter Castle (site of). The only reference we have with regard to Litter Castle is from John F. O'Sullivan, who states: 'The north western sector was held by the O'Connors and Fitzmaurice. The main defences of their territory were a number of fortified castles located along the sea coast and the mouth of the river Shannon which included... Litter. ' The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 991.
