What is recorded here

According to Bradley et al. (1986 vol. 3, 287), 'In 1621, the earl of Kilkea held a watermill as part of his manor at Kilkea'. This was presumably the corn mill noted in the Civil Survey of 1654 (Simington 1952, 118). According to Fitzgerald (1896-8, 25) the Manor or Black Mill was removed c. 1829'. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
