Fitzgerald (JKAS 1903, 163-7) mentions two possible souterrains in the immediate vicinity of the monastery (KD036-025001-). One (KD036-025005-) was uncovered in 1903 below the road immediately to the N of the present cemetery. It was of dry stone construction, roofed with flags, (Wth. 0.6m, D. 0.9m) and extended N towards the mill. It was reported to have contained human bones. A second possible souterrain (KD036-025006-), apparently similar, was found close to the E end of the present church. Both are now filled in. Date of upload: 5 September 2016

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
