Marked on the Down Survey (1655-6) map as W of Prospect House. According to Fitzgerald (1903-5, 245) the castle stood in a field known locally as 'the old town' and the Mullaghmast stone (KD036-009----; now in the NMI DU018-412----) was found during the demolition of this castle in the 19th century: it was subsequently incorporated within the fabric of Prospect House where it acted as a threshold stone to a doorway. The exact location of this castle is unknown. See also rectangular enclosure (KD036-019----). Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
