What is recorded here

An unsigned map of 1707 (NLI Ms. 21) shows an apparently three storey tower house with a smaller, two storey house attached, together with three neighbouring, single storey cottages, in the centre of this townland. The monument is also recorded, and named 'Ca Rs', on Taylor’s Map of County Kildare (1783). Tickell (1960, 399) suggests it was one of the castles erected to defend the Pale. Only the grass-covered foundations of a rectangular structure survive. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 12 June 2012

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
