What is recorded here

On a very slight rise in generally open mixed tillage and pasture. They ivy-covered ruins of Herbertstown Church (KD023-018----) stands in centre of a rectangular shaped graveyard. On the first ed. OS 6-inch map the church is shown standing in E quadrant of L-shaped graveyard with burial ground to W and N of church. Today the graveyard consists of an overgrown, roughly rectangular-shaped area (c. 33m N-S; c. 25m E-W) enclosed by wooden fencing with no visible grave markers. According to local information, skeletal remains can often be seen in upcast soil from rabbit burrows surrounding the church (pers. comm. Paddy Coleman 18/04/2019).
