In his description of three La Tene glass beads in the National Museum of Ireland's collections, Raftery (1972, 14, 16) notes that one bead was discovered about 1899 in, according to Lord Walter Fitzgerald, a gravel pit with human bones. In a subsequent note, Fitzgerald (1909, 105) recorded that the bead was found at the top of a hill at a depth of 18 inches (c. 0.45m) below the surface; at the same place (a gravel pit) where 12 skeletons were found.
