Discovered by turf-cutters in 1953 and subsequently archaeologically excavated. The burial occurred under a layer of small, partially interwoven sticks, at a depth of 1.9m below a neighbouring turf-bank, and consisted of the apparently headless remains of a 25-30 year old adult male wrapped in an inner covering of woollen textile and an outer covering of ox skin. A radio-carbon date of 1725+/-30 BP (GrN - 14758) dates the burial to between 200 and 400 AD. (O'Floinn 1991, 148-50).
