Fitzgerald (1899-1902, 195-6) gives the following account, 'a large rough granite cross-base … lies near the road… . When I visited the place in 1896, an old man … informed me that he remembered seeing the cross standing on the base; but that some fifteen years ago it was dislodged by treasure-seekers, who excavated under the base and overturned it: … The cross itself is now either lost or removed; but a portion of the fractured dowel still remains in the socket, which is 16 inches long (c.0.41m) and 9 wide (c.0.23m)'. Crawford (1907, 237) locates the monument 'a quarter of a mile along the road to Barretstown' from another cross base (KD018-010----). The exact location of this monument is unknown.
