One of two wayside crosses shown on Noble and Keenan's 1752 map of Kildare, c. 900m to the N, on the road from Sherlockstown to Straffan. By the late 19th century, according to Sherlock (1891-95, 40), 'only the bases' remained, one of which (KD014-042001-) 'is built into the boundary wall of Little Rath', where it is also shown on the 1st ed. (1838) of the OS 6-inch map. (The original location of KD014-042001-is designated KD014-028----.) Both bases were subsequently moved to Sherlockstown graveyard (KD014-043003-). A square limestone base (dims. L 0.74m; Wth 0.74m; H 0.7m) has a chamfered upper surface with a small rectangular mortice. Record number KD014-042002-- has been created to cover the original location of this cross.
