What is recorded here

Depicted as an enclosed, circular tree copse (est. diam. c. 40m) on the 1st. ed. (1838) of the OS 6-inch map, which was later reduced to a much smaller, unenclosed stand of trees as depicted on the latest ed. (1911) of the map. Subsequent aerial photographs (GSI N469, 470) show the cropmark of the original enclosing element, which is not visible at ground level. On a low E-W pasture ridge. May have been a ringfort which was planted as a landscape feature? Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
