The OSL (Herity 2002, 30) recorded that, ' … there was an old castle (beside the moat (KD004-017----)) which formerly belonged to the Fitzgeralds, but which they sold to Mr. Hort. None of it remains at present.' The castle is not recorded on Taylor's 1783 map of County Kildare, or on the OS 6-inch map ed.'s, and has not been located.
